Ellison Park

Yesterday I went with my parents and dogs to ellison park. we were walking along and i see this adoreable little girl walking along with a black lab puppy. She was all alone, so I (being a complete creeper) strike up a conversation with her, we talk about her puppy "Mendon" i was hop=ing to slow her down so that her parents could find her but Mendon runs away from her and off she goes. And  i am thinking that she will get her dog and come baack to her parents, but no, she starts to climb a very steep hill. And usually i would be fine with this, but it was really muddy and slippery up there, she could fall and get hurt or get lost. So i run ahead and find her on the hill, i persuaded her to wait with me until her parents caught up to her (they weren't anywhere in sight but she claimed that they were) so we wait, she chatters on about mud and how much fun it is to squish in and her cute little dog. Eventually her parents find her and we separate without a word. I never learned her name but i think she taught me an important lesson that day. Here is a small child who is willing to talk to a complete stranger. She was curious and adventurous and everything most people aren't. In this age of paranoia we are trained to not talk to strangers and she makes me think that maybe that isn't such a good idea, is it so bad to squish in the mud with a complete stranger and your clumsy puppy? If a little girl had the determination to climb a huge hill then why don't i? What happens when you grow up that makes us want to stay on the path and not play in the mud?

Making Friends

In July my neighbors moved away, i was extremly close to them and it was really painful, but now we are going to have new neighbors! Of cource they could never be as awesome as our old neighbors but i hope i can still be friends with them. So this afternoon i look out the window and see a family coming into my old neighbor's house. They had a small child and a girl who looks like she is around my age. In my neighborhood we have like 1,500 small children and no kids my age. So i am pretty determined to have a friend who lives near me. The thing is I'm not amazing at making friends, i usually weird people out a first or we have one awkward conversation and it ends at that. So, i am asking you (all 0 of my readers) to give me your advice, how do i approach her? What do i say? In any case, I'm really excited to meet my new neighbors!

Twilight, a rant

Hello ladies, lets talk Twilight. Just a heads up, there is going to be some Twilight bashing going on, so if you are a squealing fan girl, get off this page. My major problem with Twilight is Edward. At first glance he seems like a perfect guy, gorgeous, modest, polite, thoughtful but inspect him closer, is he funny? no. Does he have any quirks? no. Does he have an intriguing past? nope. He has no personality, as John said (and i am paraphrasing here) he is "very pretty paper on an ultimately empty package." He is so empty that girls fill in the qualities they want in a guy and then they have this perfect being to ooohh and ahh over. Okay you say, he is not a great character, but does that make the books horrible?
Surprisingly, no, however poorly written they are the books are tons of fun to read. You get hooked and then find yourself rushing out to buy the next one. They are like cotton candy, lots of fun to eat(or read) but you ultimately gain little from consuming it. Has Twilight change lives? Probably, books always bring people together, but it is doubtful that the story leave a lasting mark on the reader.

Decisions, Decisions!

As some of you know, i recently took the SAT to get into CTY. I really want to get in but I want to have alternatives in case i dont get into CTY. Researching academic camps made me relize that there are tons of great camps out there. In fact, some of them sound even better than CTY. I've narrowed it down to five camps. They all sound great but i cant decide which one i want to go to, so i figured i would let you help me choose.

1. The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
Pros:
  • Cty offers a wide range of classes in writing, humanities, math and science
  • My sister attended and had a great experience
  • I would stay in a dorm room with a room mate, which would help me make lasting friends and become more independent
  • There are dances and free time
Cons:
  • CTY is very expencive, i would only be able to go once
  • I would have limited options of colleges to attend
  • The camp lasts three weeks, which would take up lots of my summer
Mississppi State University Summer Scholars Camp
Pros:
  • The camp has two parts, both of which i am interested in, a play writing part and an acting part
  • I would get lots of experience and this would really help me with getting into the high school musical.
  • Mississippi is very close to where my family is so getting there would be easy
Cons:
  • Part of the camp is song and dance auditions, i am not an excellent dancer so that would give me a disadvantage
  • I wouldnt know which program to choose, I would really like to learn more about writing scripts but most of the people there have way more experience than i do

The Olymipcs

I love the Olympics. There is nothing i like better then watching other people bust their butts as i sit comfortably on my couch with some high calorie snacks. But in all seriousness, the idea of everyone putting aside their diffrences and coming together for a little while to celebrate the things we have in common is great. BTW micheal phelps is a beast
