Ellison Park

Yesterday I went with my parents and dogs to ellison park. we were walking along and i see this adoreable little girl walking along with a black lab puppy. She was all alone, so I (being a complete creeper) strike up a conversation with her, we talk about her puppy "Mendon" i was hop=ing to slow her down so that her parents could find her but Mendon runs away from her and off she goes. And  i am thinking that she will get her dog and come baack to her parents, but no, she starts to climb a very steep hill. And usually i would be fine with this, but it was really muddy and slippery up there, she could fall and get hurt or get lost. So i run ahead and find her on the hill, i persuaded her to wait with me until her parents caught up to her (they weren't anywhere in sight but she claimed that they were) so we wait, she chatters on about mud and how much fun it is to squish in and her cute little dog. Eventually her parents find her and we separate without a word. I never learned her name but i think she taught me an important lesson that day. Here is a small child who is willing to talk to a complete stranger. She was curious and adventurous and everything most people aren't. In this age of paranoia we are trained to not talk to strangers and she makes me think that maybe that isn't such a good idea, is it so bad to squish in the mud with a complete stranger and your clumsy puppy? If a little girl had the determination to climb a huge hill then why don't i? What happens when you grow up that makes us want to stay on the path and not play in the mud?

Making Friends

In July my neighbors moved away, i was extremly close to them and it was really painful, but now we are going to have new neighbors! Of cource they could never be as awesome as our old neighbors but i hope i can still be friends with them. So this afternoon i look out the window and see a family coming into my old neighbor's house. They had a small child and a girl who looks like she is around my age. In my neighborhood we have like 1,500 small children and no kids my age. So i am pretty determined to have a friend who lives near me. The thing is I'm not amazing at making friends, i usually weird people out a first or we have one awkward conversation and it ends at that. So, i am asking you (all 0 of my readers) to give me your advice, how do i approach her? What do i say? In any case, I'm really excited to meet my new neighbors!

Twilight, a rant

Hello ladies, lets talk Twilight. Just a heads up, there is going to be some Twilight bashing going on, so if you are a squealing fan girl, get off this page. My major problem with Twilight is Edward. At first glance he seems like a perfect guy, gorgeous, modest, polite, thoughtful but inspect him closer, is he funny? no. Does he have any quirks? no. Does he have an intriguing past? nope. He has no personality, as John said (and i am paraphrasing here) he is "very pretty paper on an ultimately empty package." He is so empty that girls fill in the qualities they want in a guy and then they have this perfect being to ooohh and ahh over. Okay you say, he is not a great character, but does that make the books horrible?
Surprisingly, no, however poorly written they are the books are tons of fun to read. You get hooked and then find yourself rushing out to buy the next one. They are like cotton candy, lots of fun to eat(or read) but you ultimately gain little from consuming it. Has Twilight change lives? Probably, books always bring people together, but it is doubtful that the story leave a lasting mark on the reader.

Decisions, Decisions!

As some of you know, i recently took the SAT to get into CTY. I really want to get in but I want to have alternatives in case i dont get into CTY. Researching academic camps made me relize that there are tons of great camps out there. In fact, some of them sound even better than CTY. I've narrowed it down to five camps. They all sound great but i cant decide which one i want to go to, so i figured i would let you help me choose.

1. The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
Pros:
  • Cty offers a wide range of classes in writing, humanities, math and science
  • My sister attended and had a great experience
  • I would stay in a dorm room with a room mate, which would help me make lasting friends and become more independent
  • There are dances and free time
Cons:
  • CTY is very expencive, i would only be able to go once
  • I would have limited options of colleges to attend
  • The camp lasts three weeks, which would take up lots of my summer
Mississppi State University Summer Scholars Camp
Pros:
  • The camp has two parts, both of which i am interested in, a play writing part and an acting part
  • I would get lots of experience and this would really help me with getting into the high school musical.
  • Mississippi is very close to where my family is so getting there would be easy
Cons:
  • Part of the camp is song and dance auditions, i am not an excellent dancer so that would give me a disadvantage
  • I wouldnt know which program to choose, I would really like to learn more about writing scripts but most of the people there have way more experience than i do

The Olymipcs

I love the Olympics. There is nothing i like better then watching other people bust their butts as i sit comfortably on my couch with some high calorie snacks. But in all seriousness, the idea of everyone putting aside their diffrences and coming together for a little while to celebrate the things we have in common is great. BTW micheal phelps is a beast

In which murie gets high on her razor

Recently, while looking through my older posts, i noticed that someone had posted a comment! After doing my happy dance, i viewed the post and was shocked at what i found:
"i got a new blade for my razor that 'gently exfoiliates and my legs are insanely smooth so i am flippping outtttttt hahahaha"-murie. Now no one appreciates the joy of freshly shaved legs better than i but sweet Moses, it seems as if our dear friend murie is becoming addicted to shaving her legs. we need to help her to get over this addiction before she shaves her legs off. STAY STRONG MURIE! WE SUPPORT YOU!

Last night i saw the dark knight (fantastic by the way) and i was thinking, maybe the reason that America is so obsessed with super heroes is that we need to be saved. And that got me thinking about myself, that my addictive personality (i rarely ever just like something) and my obsession in tv and books is mostly because i with my life were more exciting, and when i read or watch i don't have to think about my life, because i am so involved in someone else's. I am distracted from my own problems by ones that i know I'll be solved by the end of the book or episode. I want to start living my life, not someone else's. Sometimes the two merge, for example, for my birthday my mom is taking me to pittsburg to see a live pottercast with wizard rock. It is my experience in my life but i can also indulge in other people's lives. Of courcs maybe i am over analyzing my self, maybe they are just really good books/shows. but the real issue right now is what i am going to eat for lunch.

home sweet home!

I am home! I got in last night around midnight, the first thing i did (other then collapse on the couch) i got on the computer and bought some of the new moaning myrtles album (AWESOME BTW) and lots of bad 90's pop. For family talent night my cousins and i coreographed a dance to britney spear's (you drive me) crazy. Now i have heard all of these 90's bands and am addicted. If you want to see the dance my sister has a video, i have to warn you though, we are all in 90's outfits with tons of make up on. To be honest i dont really know what to say about my trip, cas there is so much that happened,so i guess this is goodbye for today!

In which alice has a nervous breakdown over fictional character

Hey ya'll! I am in atlanta, georgia at my cousin's house, i have been watching buffy religiously so those of you who watch it (laura, murie) please explain the soul thing to everyone else, because i dont have the patience to explain it. I'll wait.... ok, so i am freaking over evil angel and his evil ways and so i call laura and murie to assure me that everything turns out ok, apperently it does, but i dont know when he gets his soul back so i guess i will have to deal with all of the heartbreaking heartbreak. I leave tomorrow around 7 (freaking) am for the beach, i probly wont be able to get a signal there so this will most likely be my last post for a while. Laura gave me a "geez, it is fictional" pep talk, while murie assured me that angel wouldnt have his own series if he was evil. Also, how freaking cute are Oz and Willow together? i shall answer you: fantasticaly cute. Speaking of cute,Atlanta has the cutes little shops, tons of boutiques and cafes. I got myself a huge copy of vanity fair to read on the way there so i should remain resnobly sane. You guys should be falattered, most everything i have talked about here has been you, i suppose that it is getting annoying for them.

i cant hold in my anger anymore...Why is she always such a (as a certain type of tree would say) "B-I-T-C-H"??? gah! i want to slap her. Repeatedly.

In which Alice cant think of a good title for her blog

I came across this news story while... never mind http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=19829931&BRD=2259&PAG=461&dept_id=455154&rfi=6
this guy proposed to his girlfriend in Scranton cas they are big fans of the office, when i get engaged or whatever he needs to watch the office and preferably be adorably jealous when i go all giggly at John Krasinski. On friday morning (at the ungody hour of 4 FREAKING! am) i am leaving for florida, if you need to reach me, my mom's cell is... 1-585-737-8422 . Also we had a Zach sighting, i was babysitting and he was mowing the lawn...wearing a neon orange shirt...ew, points off for neon anything, long ish hair, points off. Also, i want murie to post about "the news" because i think it would be funnier if she gloated about it herself on her blog.

The 4th of July

I love the 4th of july, other than Christmas it is my favorite holiday. I got up and sewed beau a patriotic bow tie. I also made "goey chocolate coffee brownie cake" that was really the name of the brownies which were amazing. I made some frapachinos which were delish and went outside to work on my pottercast bow. Coco and elena came over, the 4th is elena's 16th birthday. we hung out, i changed into my blue dress with a red necklace to be patriotic. We went to meridian center and were disappointed because it had like four rides and everything was pricy. We sat under a tree and discussed buswona, apparently coco has told all of her friends about it. We came back home and talked outside. It was really nice because coco, Elena and i rarely hang out. We were joined by Liz, my parents and the dogs. And that is why i love the 4th, friends and family can celebrate summer, our nation and each other. Coco looked through my i-pod and remarked how i was turning into her. Juli and Halia came over and more crazyness commenced. We all went over to the page's and had dinner, sang along to mika and trashy music. The fireworks were amazing, like millions of diamonds shot into the air.
